Behavioural Program
This is a medical program for obesity treatment.
This program addresses one of the core symptoms of obesity: a higher appetite drive and overeating behaviour. This is often a by-product of your genes colliding with our food rich environment.
Using medications for obesity, together with practical skills from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, can make it easier to follow healthy eating and activity plans—and to maintain weight management long-term.
What does the program entail?
· Monthly 30 minute sessions with a Registered Dietitian
· Monthly 20 minute sessions with a Physician
· Biweekly Group CBT sessions (optional)
· Online Educational Modules that help you with your mindset and lifestyle optimization
· All done virtually through a secure platform
Treatment
Why do we use medications for obesity?
Obesity is a chronic, progressive medical condition with many complex causes. Research over the past two decades has shown that genetics play an important role—there are hundreds of genes that influence how the brain regulates appetite, metabolism, and body weight.
While lifestyle changes are important, most people who lose weight through diet alone eventually regain it. This happens because the brain naturally works to defend a higher body weight, sometimes called the “set point.” After weight loss, metabolism slows and appetite signals increase, making it very hard to keep the weight off.
Medications can help by supporting the brain’s appetite regulation and buffering against these biological changes, making it more possible to achieve and maintain long-term results.
Health Canada–approved medications for obesity include semaglutide, tirzepatide, liraglutide, naltrexone/bupropion, setmelanotide, and orlistat.
A referral from a Physician is required.
